Procrastination is Not Laziness

Lately, many of my clients have shared they have been procrastinating more than usual. And look, I get it, we all have those days (or weeks) where we just want to do anything but what we're supposed to be doing. And who can blame us? There's just so much good stuff out there to distract us, like Netflix and online shopping.

But here's the thing, procrastination is in fact really misunderstood and I want to shed some light on why.

First of all, let's get one thing straight: procrastination is not laziness. Procrastination is an active process where you choose to do something else instead of the task at hand. Laziness, on the other hand, is just not giving a shit.

And here's the kicker: procrastination is actually a result of our body's natural survival response. When we become overwhelmed, our mind and body freeze, making it difficult to focus on the task at hand.

Just like when your computer shits itself because you have too many tabs open.

So now you know what causes you to procrastinate, what can you do about it?

It’s quite simple.

Take a moment to breathe and regroup.

Ditch the distractions.

And just have a rest!

Because let's be real, diving in headfirst is how you got into this mess in the first place.

And once you have reset, you will have the bandwidth to process what you have to do.

When you get started, break your goal down into small, achievable tasks and take it one step at a time.

Because progress is progress, no matter how small. So, take baby steps and crush those goals, one by one! Even if it is just folding the washing!

And don't forget to reward yourself with a little something-something for each task you complete. I'm talking ice cream, a cuppa, or whatever floats your boat.

Now, go get stuff done so you can get back to the good stuff (aka trash TV).

Have a good one!
